KnighOut is a Co-Op build and brawl game where brave knights build castles to defend their king, use their mighty swords and cannons to tear down the enemy castle and slay their king. It is being developed by 2nd Studio for PC and Nintendo Switch and is set to be released in the spring of 2018 become a backer to get the game early!
KnightOut has been through a successful FIG crowdfunding campaign which enabled 2nd Studio to hire Random Dragon to develop online multiplayer functionality for the otherwise local Co-Op game.
“I met Dennis from 2nd Studio during GDC in San Francisco, we hit it off, but we were working on our own project and so were they, although we would have loved to work together, it didn’t seem like it was in the cards. It wasnts until GameScope in Aalborg, where we met again, and KnightOut had evolved a lot more, that we found out we might actually be able to work together.” Jacob, Random Dragon
KnightOut meets so many of the criteria we look for in contract work at Random Dragon, Nerdy, fun for everyone and with skill comes mastery, that when Dennis contacted us about building online multiplayer functionality, in the fall of 2017 we knew we wanted to do it, it was just a matter of finding the time.
Thankfully we have been able to come to an agreement and find the time to help 2nd Studio create their awesome game!
KnightOut poses a few interesting challenges; its built using Playmaker which was new to us, but thankfully Photon Unity Networking(PUN) works with Playmaker, and after looking through the code base we were sure we would be able to solve it.
KnightOut is set to be released both on steam and Nintendo Switch; at first we prioritize developing online multiplayer for the PC version but when/if we down we need to port the functionality to Switch we have made sure that we are using PUN for the project because it works for switch as well.
After looking through the project and code base we were confident that we could solve the task and we are super excited to work with 2nd Studio!
